How To Spend Christmas Alone – Visit Church Nearby

How to spend Christmas alone, visit a church nearby for a cuppa or simply for a chat to avoid loneliness. Loneliness can result in so many things such as depression, stress, anorexia, even leading to suicidal thoughts, which has proved to be costing the NHS millions of pounds each year.

Throughout this post, I am going to share about 10 different churches that I found about a mile radius of Bournemouth Town Centre. But why share churches though…? I chose to share a list of churches because churches have got so much to offer that can somehow help prevent some form of loneliness especially during this festive season.

Note well, churches shared are in no particular order of preference, worthiness or superiority over the other. Also, I just randomly put them up not necessarily describing in detail doctrines followed or adhered to.

1) St Andrews United Reformed Church

St Andrews Church

Also known as Richmond Hill United Reformed Church is within 520 yards on St Stephens Road, BH2 6JJ. 1st Wessex Scout Group for both boys and girls is found at this church.

I came across different types of churches. Some were non-Christian denominations.

2) Bournemouth Spiritualist Church

Bournemouth Spiritual Church

The spiritual church is found on 16 Bath Road, BH1 2PE, within 0.6 miles radius. In general, the popular groups, for example, are the Catholics, Orthodox, Lutherans, Anglicans, Baptists etc.

3) West Cliff Baptist Church

West Cliff Baptist Church

The West Cliff Baptist Church is found on Poole Road, BH4 9DN. This is 0.7 miles radius within the town centre. All these groups come with different doctrine. This is a set of belief systems or teaching instructions that followers stick to. This usually results in the creation of a religion, with cultural systems its followers practise and value as a denomination.

4) St Stephen Church

St Stephens Church

Found within 600 yards radius is St Stephens Church, on St Stephen’s Way, BH2 6JX. When I was making my collection of churches within the mile radius of Bournemouth town centre, I found that Catholic Churches somehow dominated.

5) Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Bournemouth Places of Worship

Bournemouth Oratory Church

The Bournemouth Oratory in Formation Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is found on 1 Albert Road, BH1 1BZ. It is within 520 yards radius. This church is right in the middle of Bournemouth town centre. It is surrounded by everything anyone can ever need from restaurants to hotels and a wide selection of High Street shops.

Although I might not include some of these churches on my list, I have also discovered that some religions were developed by a founder who might have separated from an already existing church. For example, the Protestant Christianity/Protestantism. This was a movement within Christianity that was initiated by Martin Luther in 1517.

6) St Peters Church

St Peters Church

The St Peters Church is opposite Mary Shelley Pub and Beales Department Store on Hinton Road, BH1 2EE within 720 yards radius. One would have choices, for example, to go on a shopping spree at Beales then go and rest lunching at Mary Shelley.

Protestant Christians separated from the Catholic Church during the Reformation. On the other hand, came the Anglicanism that referred to itself as the media between Catholicism and Protestantism. Anglicanism considers itself to be both Catholic and Reformed.

7) East Cliff United Reformed Church

East Cliff Reformed Church

The East Cliff Church is a stone throw away from ASDA supermarket. Not that I am suggesting this idea but, people can park their cars at ASDA car park and nip into the church for the glorious praise. Well, at least that is what I would do if I was a church member there. This church is located on 65 St Swithun’s Road, Bournemouth, BH1 3RG, within a mile radius from the town centre.

Most of these churches surfaced centuries ago while today we now see charismatic churches surfacing in numerous figures, all portraying different behaviours of various church settings.

8) Discover Church

Discover Church

Also known as the Wessex Christian Centre as you will find on some websites is Discover Church. They are on Hinton Road, BH1 2EN on a 0.8-mile radius. For more details click here and get to know more about them. This church used to be a Theatre and Cinema. WOW, an awesome transformation…. xx

I wonder how ready you are for Christmas. For some Christmas is a time for worry, hunger and loneliness. They become very anxious or depressed and just feel like hiding from everything. Do not allow this to happen to you this year. Find a Church near you and have some people to celebrate Christmas with. Churches are always there to reach out to communities and share life-giving messages.

9) Citygate Church

Home of Citygate Church

The Home of Citygate Church is kind-of opposite ASDA in Bournemouth Town Centre. Citygate Church is on 138a Holdenhurst Road, BH8 8AS. It is within 0.9 miles radius. Again, people can take advantages of the ASDA parking spaces.

It might not necessarily belong to any church from the list that I compiled proving I am not trying to promote or market my favourite church. My hope is to share something that might be of good use this festive holiday.

I am sure where ever you live, there is a church hopefully within walking distance that you can drop in and explore. They will feed you and they will be joyful to rejoice with new people. Nowadays churches have common purposes or mission statement such as offering outreach services, having food/clothes-bank facilities, sleep-safe provisions and signposting to suitable organisations that might facilitate appropriate means of help forward, just to name a few.

10) Last but not least is the mosque.

Bournemouth Islamic Mosque

It might be a bit scary to walk into a church building, especially if it is the first time, but there is always someone ready to welcome new people. I am not encouraging a particular visit to any of the churches above but just presenting a general overview of what can be expected from churches. I didn’t even mention the church I go to because it is outside the mile radius I was concentrating on.

However, if you happen to visit a church near you during this Christmas festive, do leave a comment below on how it goes. I would really love to know the outcome and maybe you can encourage others to seek solace from churches and beat loneliness. On this note, I would love to pass well wishes to all my beloved followers this Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with joy and peace of mind. Love you all xx
